This is a page from the very first fancy blank book I ever had. It was a soft cover book with parchment papers and inspirational quotes and old-fashioned artwork in the corners. It was given to me in 1976, but I didn’t really start to use it until 1979, the year I graduated. I finally filled the pages in 1989 and kept the journal tucked away. Through moves, and re-reading of the pages, it finally fell apart a few weeks ago. I’ve been working to save some of the better artwork and writing within its pages. It will take me a few more weeks, but I will add all of it to a section on my blog.
This particular page came about when I was listening to a record – you know, those large, round, black vinyl things – that belonged to my brother Jim. It was an album of Ozzy Osbourne music. One of the songs sparked the illustration on this page. It’s always been one of my favorites. I have kept it like this because trying to scan it in color without the other side showing through was just impossible. As “flawed” as it may be, somehow it feels right.
I think your drawing is awesome.
I bought a scanner back in 2005 and have yet to use it.
You’ve inspired me!
