Last weekend we went to see Munich and it’s taken me awhile to think about it before writing a review. In 1972, 11 Israeli athletes were killed during the Olympics in Germany. The movie is about what happened to the terrorists afterwards.
My memory of this time is pretty thin. My dad who was always big on watching sports and the Olympics, was in full blown political outrage at this time. Any of the regular shows we watched fell by the wayside as the news was constantly full in reporting everything. I remember being amazed that there was a country, to my knowledge that was patriarchal, had a female as its leader. Golda Meir fascinated me. Lynn Cohen, the actress portraying Golda Meir, had a small part in the movie, but she exuded all the power and grace I had felt when I saw Ms. Meir on tv.
As for the rest of the movie… it was well made, excellent. But, it was difficult to watch. It was the humanizing of those that killed the Israelis and the de-humanizing of the men that went after them that was disturbing to me.
If you’ve seen this movie, I’d like to know your feelings and thoughts.
I haven’t seen this yet, but I’ve been wanting to since I saw it advertised. I’ll try and get to seeing it on Sunday, and then I’ll get back to you.
I haven’t seen the movie, but I remember the chaos around it all, the news on TV and my parents reaction.
