When You Can’t Sleep

26 Jan

Early MorningI have insomnia. It’s weird, though. Once I do fall asleep, I don’t seem to have any trouble getting at least a good six hours of sleep. And, it isn’t like I’m not tired, because I am. I’m yawning, and I’m sometimes even nodding off in the middle of a sentence (whether I’m writing in my book journal, or on the computer).

A lot of the time the insomnia doesn’t bother me. It’s rather a lot like keeping the same hours my husband has. I figure, as long as I’m awake when he is, it’s good.

But there are times when the insomnia gets the better of me. Those are the nights when I wind up staying up for the entire night. In a day or so, I tend to crash… have one night where I go to bed early and sleep nearly twelve hours.

I keep trying to control it. To put myself into a routine. These last few months, I did pretty well at forcing a routine. Going to bed at 2am and setting my alarm for 10:00am. Some nights I slipped, but not badly. I hadn’t had a night where I stayed up completely.

When Richard went out of town this weekend, it was all thrown off. I went to bed at 2am, but couldn’t fall asleep the way I wanted. At about 4, the dogs wanted to go out and woke me up. I am sooooo wide eyed awake right now, it’s not even funny. I’m not worried, though. This time, I feel like I have a better chance of slipping back into my routine.
