At 9:30pm Yesterday It All Went Downhill

03 Mar

I got slammed by a monster migraine yesterday. Not even two Imitrex were making it better and I was certain my left eye was going to melt out of my head. Finally decided to call 911. I wanted to call Poison Control to find out if I could take a 3rd Imitrex, but I was having trouble reading the phonebook. In calling 911 I discovered our 911 service is connected only to the firehouse. I told them I just wanted to make sure I wouldn’t kill myself by taking a 3rd med and that I didn’t want to go to the hospital. They said they couldn’t help. Fine, hung up. 15 minutes later there is a huge HUGE fire truck parked out in front and three firemen with a blood pressure monitor on my doorstep. I was in really awful pain, let them in and while I’m crying one guy takes my BP (120/110 for the curious). My house is in the dark cause the light is excruciating. I tell them, no ambulance – can’t afford it. They cancel the ambulance and a 2nd firefighter calls Poison Control. (Now, couldn’t they have done this when I was on the phone with them???) Poison Control says an absolute no to the 3rd Imitrex. With my BP up so high, a third one would give me a stroke. Poison Control then tells the fireguy – shine a light in her eyes and make sure she’s not having a stroke. Oh joy! Big ol’ flashlight to the eyes and I’m seeing painful prisms. However, “pupils are normal and reactive” meaning, no stroke. They give me a cold pack and leave. I go back to bed and weather it out.

About ten minutes later my husband calls me. Seems the firemen, when they were quizzing my clarity by asking me my name, number, date, where my husband was, where he worked his number, they called him to let him know I was all right. !!!

Ok. I was going to tell him. You don’t keep something like that secret. But jeez… he was panicked.

So, you’d think the day would have ended there at 3:30am. Nope.

Here comes Thursday and I have a doctor’s appointment. That all goes well until they do the blood draw. I get dizzy, nauseous, and yeah… my miniscule breakfast of oatmeal and oj revisited. Even in a doctor’s office where you know they see some embarrassing things I don’t like getting sick in public. I just really want to curl up and die. Thankfully it soon cleared and we were able to get out of there and home where I could get into bed with the cats and sleep.

Still feeling slightly woozy, but I know I’ll be fine tomorrow. I just hope I’m tip top so we can go out on saturday.

Tell me, funny or not, what would you hate to get caught doing in a public place?

Wow – what a day you had! I’m so sorry things went so badly and hope you feel completely better soon. (I can relate to the migraines – I’ve been to the emergency room for them in the past.)

There are many, many things that I would hate doing in public. Really all related to bodily functions or dancing! :)
