Ban Thin Models?

Fashion Boss Rejects Bid to Ban Thin Models

When I first heard about what Madrid did, I was right there shouting an “about time!” I don’t care for the fashion industry’s bent toward the malnourished, dope fiend look. I also am disappointed by a fashion industry that just cannot seem to design beautiful clothes for the “everyday woman”.

I applaud any woman that has the discipline to keep herself fit. However, not all fit and healthy women have totally flat bellies, perky boobs, perfect asses, and non-flappy arms. There are many healthy and fit women that have little or big problem areas that are never going to be re-shaped by exercise, liposuction, or cosmetic surgery.

Then there are those not-so-fit women, those that just like their bodies, and those who are just tall, big, or small or whatever; they just don’t fit the cookie-cutter norm. Where are the fashion designers for these women?

So, should thin models be banned? Should the fashion industry be restricted to a particular BMI index? As much as a part of me would like to say, hell yeah! I have to say, no. What really needs to be done is an overhaul in the fashion industry. The “Everyday Woman” needs to be back on that pedestal where she once was back in the glamour days of Marilyn Monroe (at the height of her popularity, she was a size 16). Fashion needs to stop concentrating on the Paris Hiltons of the world and pay attention to the women that are out there: mothers, grandmothers, working women with careers or in the military, the soft, the pluffy, pleasantly plump, curvaceous. This REAL WOMAN needs to be reflected in the models.

The real woman includes those skinny things that we’re all supposed to emulate. Some women are naturally slim and thin and they should be represented as well. They should not be the end all, be all. That’s where ill health and unhealthy weight loss lies for many women and young women.

It’s my hope that what Madrid did in banning those thin models will give the fashion industry a well-needed kick in the head; it’s time to pay attention to your real consumer. The woman that we truly are, because we’re BEAUTIFUL!

Sorry I haven’t stopped by, having bandwidth problems with Comcast. =O(

Oh yes, this whole model thing should be repeated here in the US industry as well. I’m currently dieting but only because I am unhealthy with these few extra lbs. Totally my fault do to spending the summer drinking colas, eating candy bars daily and sitting inside in the AC vs. getting any exercise. LOL!

But even when I do loose these extra whoopsie lbs. My body is framed and works better on the high end of the weight/height charts. (165) Holding a constant 145 would mean eating like a rabbit forever and I don’t think we’re supposed to eat like a rabbit naturally. =O)

I hope this will catch on even more. After all our favorite of guy celebrities are the ones with a little manly pouch going on. Time for the guys to route us on and stop the desire for stick figures.

I love the new Dove product commercials. And, I think the women in it are really beautiful, too. I like the new cucumber soap… smells yummy!

I switched to buying some Dove products just because they started using “real” bodies to advertise their products. You know the shampoo isn’t half bad.

  4. sizes are shrinking again.i cant fit intoa single holloween costume, and it looks as though walmart wont carry plus size this year! the 14 didn’t even fit my mother in law! and she is about average- excuse us for having boobs!

and i hated being flat chested as a teen. *sigh*
