The big dog that lives next door to us, that has a huge bark, has been left outside for two nights in a row, now. Last night he wasn’t as noisy, but it was heart-breaking to hear him moaning softly.
We’ve tried to catch his owners, who show up in the morning, briefly, and then leave again, to find out what’s going on, but haven’t caught them. We’re wondering if some sort of family emergency is going on, which is why we’ve resisted calling animal control.
The thing is, as nice as these folks are, and they are very nice, polite people, they have no common sense when it comes to having a dog. The dog isn’t very well trained and honestly? If you buy a breed of dog with a bark that sounds like a damn foghorn at six in the morning, that type of dog is not meant for a residential neighborhood! They leave the dog outside at times, with no regards to the neighbors who are subjected to his barking when they leave. The kids don’t play with the dog and always seem to leave the garage door open, so the dog gets out and runs away.
But these last two days are just dumb. IF you have an emergency, there are six neighbors in our neighborhood that have dogs; at least one, if asked would help with the dog. Hell, if they asked us, we’d take their dog into our house so he’d have company and wouldn’t be outside all night.
We also wouldn’t have the idiot on the other side of us, standing in his backyard who shouts, “SHUT THE ‘F’ UP YOU DAMN ANIMAL!!!!!”
He’s a whole ‘nother story, that one.
Anyway, we’re going to talk to a few neighbors about what’s up. If we don’t catch the dog’s owners today and he’s out again all night; we’re going to call animal control.
UPDATE: Well, we may have sussed what’s up. Looks like the parents and the younger kids went off for a little vacation and the elder son, who has his own place, was supposed to stay at the house. Instead, the little spit decided to just take off and only came back to feed the dog.
We called Animal Control last night and filed a complaint. If this is all the teens fault, he’s in for some big hurt when his parents get home.
Poor dog. They can’t help the people who keep them.
it’s a darn shame, why do they even have a dog, the laws for dog neglect, should be like child neglect.
I hate when people mistreat their animals. I used to live near a family that left their dogs outside no matter how bad the weather. It was horrible. We may have even called the ASPCA on them. The dogs would be on on days when it was too cold for anyone to be outside.
Stories like this are incredibly depressing. Poor poor animal. I can’t help but laugh at the foghorn comment though, it’s a good analogy.
