A Faster Connection?

02 Oct

We’ll see. Sometime tomorrow, if all goes well, I’ll be going from a 256K DSL speed to 1.5MB. We did some changes recently to our phone service and qualified for a special on the DSL, which would mean I’d be paying less on it. Always a good thing.

BUT

It took nine months and six technicians to replace phone lines, test our lines, test my computer, and over a hundred calls to customer support before my original DSL line was working perfectly.

I’ve said it before; plug-n-play has no right to be applied to any piece of technology. At least, not as long as it is something I’m going to use. I have NEVER had an easy time with computers and it has always caused grief, stress, and money. My poor husband puts up with a lot for me to have this outlet, and I appreciate it more than I can say.

So, tomorrow is the service change day. They told that it was simply a switch, and a virtual one at that. A simple little blip and I should then notice that web pages are downloading faster.

I hope so. Every now and then, something has to go right, doesn’t it?

UPDATE: “Clap my hands and jump for joy! Got a clean bill of health from Dr. McCoy!” Lookee this:

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-10-02 15:30:57 EST:
680 / 620
Your download speed : 680 kbps or 85 KB/sec.
That is 60.2% worse than an average user on qwest.net

Your upload speed : 620 kbps or 77.5 KB/sec.
That is 1.3% better than an average user on qwest.net

Considering where I was yesterday, that little blurb where it’s 60.2% worse is not a problem at all. It isn’t quite 1.5mb, but it’s a helluva lot faster than 256k. Yahooodles!
