This is the third book in the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. In this book we are introduced to a real Knight, Michael, a Knight of the Sword of the Cross. Chicago is in the grips of a mysterious ghost invasion. When Michael and Harry Dresden discover that the ghosts are being tortured into doing violence, they realize there is something deeper behind this occult attack.
As Harry narrates the tale, it twists and turns and takes the reader from the firm solidity of Chicago and into the perilous nature of the nevernever.
These books require the reader to put aside any notions of logic and credibility. Just sit back and be prepared to encounter vengeful spirits, faery godmothers, and scheming vampires. And don’t forget the White Council; the equivalent of the Bush administration.
We get to learn more about Harry and what drives him to take the risks that he does. We also get a little more insight into such regular characters as Lt. Karrin Murphy, head of Special Investigations, Susan, the reporter for the Arcane and Bob, the skull.
