The heat is really heavy today. There all kinds of warnings on TV about staying inside, keep out of the heat, leave pets and children at home. Still, there are some idiots that are still leaving children and pets in cars. Four children have died, so far, in our area. Yesterday a toddler was left by his grandmother in her car in a busy shopping mall. Some other shoppers noticed the kid crying, broke the window and called the police. If you can believe it, the grandmother was outraged to have missed the sale she was at the mall for and she was demanding payment for the broken window.
Richard and I are taking it easy today. My sore throat is improving, but I’m tired. It didn’t help that the neighbor kids decided to get together and skateboard in the middle of the street at 4am. Usually I try to ignore them, but this was too much. Getting dressed, I hauled my awake-angry self outside and chewed them out. They didn’t seem at all threatened until I picked out the neighbor’s kid and threatened to tell his parents. I don’t know how his parents discipline him and his brother and sister, but he paled, snatched up his skateboard, and told the others to go to the park.
I’m still doing more reading than writing. I’m enjoying it much more than I have in a long time. It’s fun getting lost within the pages of a good book. My Amazon wishlist is straining at the seams with all the new authors I’m reading.
I’ve never been much of a one for reading series, but that was mostly due to finances. At this time in my life, I can easily afford to plunk down $50 for a series of books. I’ll have to step away from the mundane for awhile and put up some book reviews.
