Dance of the Servers

18 Sep

LinkSky switched us (my brother and I) to different servers last night. So far it appears the move was fairly seamless, but if you come across any weirdness, give me a shout.

I actually looked at my site stats today (the really in-depth ones provided by LinkSky that I never look at) and was surprised to find that one of my most visited posts was my “hand” post in which I have the photo of Jodie Foster flipping everyone off. You guys are strange.

WordPress is releasing a big change, soon. They’re doing away with categories and integrating tags. It’s a change that’s going to disable a lot of plugins and themes. It’s also going to be a whole new learning curve. I’m hesitant about doing the upgrade, but I don’t like to be left behind, so I’ll bite the bullet, learn it, and be happy.

This weekend we’re off to San Jose, CA for my brother-in-law’s wedding. It’s a very fancy affair (much more fancy than me and the spouse care for). We also just found out that the reception dinner is Asian. Her family (of which there will be about 57 members to us 4 – Richard, BIL, MIL and me) is… Vietnamese?… if I remember correctly. We haven’t met her, yet. I’ve been told that the food is on the spicy side and that I’ll be able to get a hamburger. (McDonald’s please!)

Weddings really aren’t fun, for the guests. Everyone has to be on their best behavior and kowtow to the bride’s whims. I’m not faulting her, at all. Even at my simple wedding I threw out a couple of whims here and there. It’s just suits, silks, dresses and all that really aren’t comfortable. Tight shoes, impossible heels, girdles… is it any wonder I’m already double dosing on my anti-anxiety meds?

To top it all off, we’ve had to board the dogs for three days. We did luck out and it’s not a formal kennel. A woman who used to own a very large kennel and retired, takes dogs into her home, walks them, plays with them, etc. Panda and Marcus are going to be severely spoiled. They might not want to come back to us. Claudius, ye olde cat, is going to get the run of the house. I hope he likes it, but he may not. He prefers us.

That’s the exciting week ahead. I’m going to take my cat outside, now.

Yes, I suppose they can be – which makes me thankful that, so far, I’ve managed to avoid going to even one (and that includes one blood relation, one extended relation and one that can be avoided due to neighbor issues-she’s not amused with us and it’s her granddaughter’s wedding, so……)

I’m quite excited about WordPress 2.3 – I’ve been looking forward to it ever since the notion of tags being native was first mentioned. I’ve been on the the WordPress Testers mailing list for this one, as well, and it looks like the transition to the new version should go fairly smoothly. 2.3 will break some plugins, most notably those having to do with categories, since those are getting rolled into the new taxonomy, but themes should work fine – they just won’t show tags until the themes are updated with the new tag functions. Should be fun, though. Final version goes out on Monday, and you can be sure I’ll be updating the moment it hits the server. :)
