Who Is Iz?

I love the mix of the two songs “Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World”. I just never knew anything about that gentle voice with the ukele. Over at Phreedom.us I discovered that this man Israel “Iz” Kamakawiwo’ole is a beloved Hawaiian hero who died at the very young age of 38.     He truly was an incredible talent. Not many people can take two old standards which are considered sappy or cheesy by many and turn them into such a hauntingly moving piece of work

    I came across his music with the 50 First Dates movie. I haven’t heard much of his other music, but have been kicking around buying some more. This might push me over the edge.

    Iz is beautiful. Loved the link. I’ve had a really crappy day and I needed that.

    Amazing that in an age of acoustics, too many decibels and technological sounds, a beautiful voice, lovely lyrics and a ukelele can speak to us so clearly.
