A Writing Meme

14 Oct

I’ve been tagged by Sam of Spurious Ink for this writing meme in which I am to list five of my writing strengths. I had to think about this as I don’t normally care to center on either my strengths or weaknesses. It kind of weighs me down and I’d rather write. However, I don’t get tagged too terribly often and I do so enjoy the extra attention, so here goes; my writing strengths.

  1. I can write a complete, short story in one sitting. This is both a strength and a weakness. It is a strength in that I’ve always been very good at writing on the fly. It’s a weakness because I find it incredibly difficult to work on a story beyond that one sitting.
  2. I’m able to create believable, living, breathing characters without needing to spend weeks doing character charts, or musing on my characters motivations. I have a sometimes rather scary ability to write directly from my characters point of view, even if the story is in third person. This may be why some of my horror characters are really scary to some folks.
  3. I like re-reading stories I’ve written. It’s possible most writers are this way, but I’ve come across too many writers who cannot stop themselves from critizing or cringing when they have to re-read what they’ve written.
  4. I am a better storyteller than I am a writer, which is why I need a tape recorder implant. I began telling stories back when I was very, very young. I always had something for whoever wanted to listen and I still do.

This was a tough one to do, so I won’t tag anyone. If you want to try it, comment here and let me know if you’ve posted on your blog.

Interesting that you like to reread your work. I hate doing this. I always find the flaws or what could have been better, funnier, etc. Your 1 and 2 strengths are so great. Lucky lady.

Thanks, Sam. I did forget about the imagination. lol

You’ve forgot “I’ve got one wicked cool, unpredictable imagination.” That’s one of the strengths that I see in your writing.

P.S. Glad you like the attention. ;)
