My Workspace

Stepford Mom asked and I am more than happy to oblige. The following bunch of photos are of my workspace; the place I have spent way too much time in. I’ve missed fresh air, seasons, exercise, all for the sake of my cursed computer. My name is Jayne and I am a Computer Internet-ohlic.

My cornerThis is my main corner. Recently we moved the desk into this position against the window. Probably not a smart thing. The vent for the A/C and heater is just beneath my feet, the dining room window glares upon the monitor, and the corner is somewhat cramped. Are we moving the desk again? Hell no! That sucker is freaking heavy!

Surroundings - FireplaceBefore looking closely at my desk, take a gander at some of my surroundings. I’m in the living room and since it’s decorated (I use that term loosely) with all my stuff, I consider it part of the main corner workspace. Here we have Hellboy and Jack Swan. They don’t really care for each other. This is one time I’ve caught them when they’re not firing at each other.

Haunted HouseThis lovely haunted house sits upon my entire CD collection. The haunted house stays there all year. I don’t celebrate Halloween anymore (except in my stories) so this is my one indulgence. I am content with the knowledge that my MIL doesn’t like it. It has a little witch on the tower that flies around and the lights blink. As for my CD collection, the spin-table is pretty full. I don’t download music; ever. I don’t own an ipod or mp3 player, I have a harddrive with 60gb of unused space. I don’t have it loaded with digital music. I will continue to purchase CDs until they go the way of the vinyl record.

Barbossa and PhotosNow for some close-up shots of my desk. This first one is of the top of the desk. I used to have several porcelain dolls up here, but it became too cluttered. I now have, on this side, Barbossa, his treasure and his monkey, Jack. Behind Barbossa are photos of me and the spouse and one photo of the Spokane River.

Venice and Queen Elizabeth 1On the left side of the desktop we have the city of Venice, a 3D puzzle built with mom’s help and a porcelain doll of Queen Elizabeth I. Her feathers in her hair are getting a little bedraggled. Mimi used to sneak into the living room at night, hop onto the desk and play with the feathers.

My deskHere’s the right side of my desk. It’s a bit cleaner because my husband needs access to the desk drawers which hold hold all our banking stuff. I keep the pen pot there along with my cough drops and remotes. I wish that container had chocolate covered strawberries, but it isn’t; just Ricola cough drops. The remotes are for the stereo and the TV.

My deskLastly, the left side of my desk. The drawers, which are also filled with a bunch of needed stuff, are practically inaccessible because I need my kleenex, address book and writing prompt book there. The green bottle is my hand lotion (dry hands get worse since the heater’s been going). My camera is there as well as my notebook for jotting down notes and reminders. Although, when something is very important, I yellow sticky it to my monitor.

So there you have it. My workspace. If you participate and show off yours, let me know.

What a great tour. Are you always this organized or did you tidy up just for us?
