One of the things I really like to do with my camera is to find those objects that others wouldn’t think to photograph; ugly stuff. This is one of my favorite “ugly” photographs.

About two blocks from our house is this great nursery that’s all in bloom in Spring. I’ve always wanted to take my camera there, but I get nervous photographing in front of anyone. It’s weird, I know. This one time, though, I got my nerve up, asked the owner if he wouldn’t mind, and just took a lot of photos. Out of all of them, I was most fascinated by this mess around their watering system source. I quickly snapped the photo and was immediately asked by a woman packing a box full of begonia pots, why I’d take a photo of something so disgusting. I just simply told her, “I like ugly.”
