Miss Pettigrew

We saw Miss Pettigrew Lives for A Day and its confirmed, I am becoming a mush. It’s a beautifully made movie with lots of 1940s glitz, glamour, art nouveau, and flirting.

Guinevere Pettigrew, a middle-aged London governess, finds herself unfairly dismissed from her job. An attempt to gain new employment catapults her into the glamorous world and dizzying social whirl of an American actress and singer, Delysia Lafosse.

The movie is fast-paced and the viewer starts out as confused and dazed as Miss Pettigrew is until you get the gist of what’s going on. Once you’ve got it, you can sit back and enjoy the influence Miss Pettigrew has on the lives of four people: the ditzy American, the poor piano player, the conniving social climber and the handsome designer.

Now the only thing I couldn’t understand is why the hell Frances McDormand, who plays the title character, wound up with seventh billing??

It’s a lovely comedy romance with a very good script and Frances McDormand and Ciaran Hinds. I think it was worth the full movie price.
