The World is On Fire

11 Jul

Well, maybe not the whole world, but this part of Spokane, WA is on fire. Spokane Valley is in trouble right now with 1200 acres so far destroyed. Seems it’s enough of a fire to stir the governor of Washington to come visit and declare it an emergency.

I kind of feel that any fire, no matter the size, is a bit of an emergency.

City of SpokaneImage via WikipediaAh well. Anyway, the evacuation point is about 15 blocks above us. Seems there is a high school on our street that’s being used as a shelter, so everyone fleeing the flames are parking on our street. I’ve been awake since hubby went to work hearing bad-tempered neighbors yelling at people not to park in front of their house. What’s the big deal? You can’t stand to have a strangers car in front of your house when your THREE driver’s age kids are ALWAYS parking their stupid wrecks in front of MY house??

Stupid people.

Fifteen blocks is still way too close for comfort. Wildfires can be unrelenting. Breathing the air so close must be terrible – when we had the wildfires down here in South Georgia/Florida last year the winds carried the smoke up our way one day. I had a sore throat for well over a week as it irritated my whole entire respiratory system.

Jan – yep, I’ve been watching about those fires. My mom is in Monterey, not far from the Big Sur fire and they’ve had some bad air days in Monterey.

Storyteller – I’m sure they’ll get it under control, soon. It seems rain is expected today.

  5. I’m sorry about the fires so close to you. Watching the news reminds me of the fires burning all over Southern California last Fall when I started blogging. The air was thick with ash making breathing difficult and there seemed to be no end in sight as the Santa Ana winds whipped through here at speeds of 70 mph and more. I hope the fire-fighters get things under control quickly.
    Hugs and blessings,

We have the same thing in Northern California. You’re right, the world is burning.
