From ‘Forgotten English’, gizzen means to grin audibly.

Now, how do you grin audibly? Do you know of anyone that is a noisy grinner? Or maybe it refers to your jaw popping because you grin too wide.

Hmmm.

I do gizzen. I think most people do. You can hear people smile, without seeing their face. Like on a radio interview or a record. John Prine gizzens a lot.
