Still Need Help: IE Error

19 Nov

As I mentioned a few days ago, I am continually getting an “Internet Explorer Error” message and I do not use IE.

Here’s what I’ve done to try and fix this:

1) Updated Vista
2) Optimized and then reset IE8.
3) When step 2 didn’t do anything I removed IE8 and Vista reverted to IE7.
4) All add-ons disabled and all Active-X deleted, as per instructions from the MS Support Center for Vista.
5) Ran Ad-Aware
6) Ran Vista Defender Scan

I researched the URL that is mentioned in the error message and it led to a site called My Systems Expert. There was no clue there as to how to fix or remove the error. When the error message comes up, I click NO.

This is the error message I am still getting:

IE_Error

If you can help me or can give me any advice on what I might do, please let me know.

Per Sam’s request, this is my current Startup:

sys_config

Thank you!

My suggestion, for what it’s worth:

Download CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) Run its cleaner, checking off applicable boxes in the “Windows” and “Applications” tabs. Also use it to clean your registry. Then look at its “Tools” tab to see what it lists in the startup menu. It’s far more understandable than the Windows dialog box, and you may see something that shouldn’t be there. Especially something with “yahoo” on it. You can also use its uninstaller to get rid of anything questionable.

At a guess, it’s a leftover from something that was installed and uninstalled that didn’t quite clean up all the way. The registry cleaner *should* take care of it. If not, there’s a better registry cleaner here: http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm

Good luck, and let me know how it goes!

I know you said before that this happens at start-up, so what apps do you have that start on boot?

Sam, I updated this post with a screenshot of my Startup. My Vista Startup Folder, though, is empty.

Thanks, Jayne. I’m just really confused by this. Do you have Yahoo Messenger installed? Or any apps from mysystemexpert? What the yell is My Mini Yahoo? The closest I’ve come to finding anything useful had to do with Yahoo Messenger utilizing Internet Explorer, and causing a similar error.

        Sorry I don’t know what’s going on.

PS I like your JavaScript image-viewing thingy.
