Mom’s Here & I’m Sick

02 Nov

I have an ear infection that is making the side of my face ache. It tends to be better in the evening, but tomorrow I am off to the walk-in clinic for some antibiotic. My mom is coming with me. The company will be nice, but it just feels weird that I’m 47 and my “mommy” is taking me to the doctor.

ROFL

Ah yes, pain brings forth the absurd.

That aside, mom’s plane came in on time on Friday but we didn’t get home until almost eleven. We were all tired. We really haven’t any plans to do anything as it is just too damn cold right now. I expect that we will take mom out to lunch and possibly to a movie. We’ll see.

First Rain of Autumn

14 Oct

Claudius - no red-eyeIt’s raining today. Although it’s been feeling like we completely missed Fall and dropped right into Winter, this rain is an autumn rain. It’s chilly outside, but the house is nice and warm. As soon as I left my bed, Claudius shot like a dart to the warm spot and snuggled himself down for the day. Unless something interesting happens in the kitchen.

Panda and Marcus have just finished their breakfast and both are fast asleep; one of the dog bed, one on the couch.

MarcusMarcus, our eldest dog, is really showing his age these last few months. It’s mostly his back legs. They get stiff and it’s harder for him to get up as smoothly as he used to. He’s more wary about the steps in the house, and the staircase down to the backyard. Of course, if there are evil birds invading our yard, all bets are off and he’s screaming down those stairs like a youngster.

One of Marcus’ favorite spots to sleep is our leather couch. He does pretty well in the morning in getting himself up there, but in the evening he can only get his front end up. If no one sees him, he squeak/whistles (an ear piercing, very soft sound) until either Richard or I gather up the back end (of course, the heaviest part!) and lift him. He’s thankful, though, and always licks the hand, or the face if its too close!

On another topic, I am beginning to awaken from my summer hibernation. No matter that the cold weather is coming early, mentally I’m stretching and cannot wait until the first snow comes down.

What I do find interesting is that all this socialising I’ve been doing (Facebook, Twitter, now LiveJournal) was begun several weeks ago. It just means my meds are doing the job. Without meds, I wouldn’t have my first bout of cold induced euphoria until the temperature really dropped.

Tis good, and so far today I actually feel like I’ve accomplished something.

Sunday Stealing: Alpha Meme

02 Aug

It’s Sunday Stealing time again. Care to join me?

My roommate and I once: didn’t talk for three days. A nice little tactic she used when she was mad at me. I could give a fig about getting the silent treatment. I liked the quiet. When she finally got mad at me for not reacting to her silent treatment, she left a message on the table that was an invitation for coffee that evening. Thinking she was going to behave like an adult, I got disgusted with her when she took out a notebook and began writing her grievance. Two days later I was ready to leave the apartment and move back in with mom & Jim. She’s the twit who took her scissors to my clothing.

Never in my life have I: taken or smoked illegal substances. Although, I did get a second-hand high while a friend was smoking and had the windows of the car rolled up tight since it was cold outside.

High school was: meh.

When I’m nervous: my hands shake, my heart rate goes up, and I sometimes have a panic attack.

My hair: has been dyed dark brown, and honey blonde. I wish I could straighten it, but rumour has it that the procedure would fry my hair.

When I was 5: Monarch butterflies flew off the tv screen and into the living room. I still don’t think that was a hallucination.

When I turn my head left: I see my calendar, my photo of the Spokane River, the caricature of Snape Sam did for me.

I should be: heading to bed, but I’m working on this meme.

By this time next year: I’ll be a year older.

My favorite aunt is: Auntie’s bookstore because next door is Uncle’s Games & Puzzles store.

I have a hard time understanding: teenagers. I didn’t care for being one, and I like them even less these days.

You know I like you if: I talk to you once in a blue moon on GTalk.

My ideal breakfast is: French toast with real butter and real maple syrup.

If you visit my home town: I don’t entertain unless I know some weeks in advance you’re coming.

If you spend the night at my house: be prepared to have a black cat sharing your bed, and for dog hair to enhance your clothing.

The animal I would like to see flying besides birds: any bird that can’t fly.

I shouldn’t have been:… I don’t know.

Last night I: went to bed early.

A better name for me would be: etherian. Personally, I like my real name, Jayne d’Arcy. It took me awhile to appreciate it. However, when I want to be pseudonymous, I go with the etherian nickname.

I’ve been told I look like: my father.

If I could have any car, it would be: a 1936 Green Pierce Arrow.
