Raising Awareness: Abuse

12 Jun

Here is a story I think everyone should read: Primary School. Why should you read it? It’s about what happens when we, ADULTS, don’t listen to what children are trying to say to us.

I read about abuse more and more these days and am appalled at how much it is out there. It sickens me. It makes me glad, in a bittersweet kind of way, that we couldn’t have children.

Children are annoying and adults are impatient. It’s the way it’s always been. However, we’re the grown-ups who are supposed to keep the young ones safe. We need to listen.

This story really touched me because it described rather closely what I went through when I was in school. I poured my heart into my stories, and my artwork. No adult ever picked up that I was hurting and being hurt.

So… read this story, adults, and listen.

The Sandman Vol. 3: Dream Country The Sandman Vol. 3: Dream Country by Neil Gaiman

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
I enjoyed this 3rd in the Sandman graphic novels but I’ve only given it four stars because it just plain ended too soon.

Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione

My review

rating: 1 of 5 stars
I don’t plan on getting another book by this author. This read more like bad adult fan fiction. The second Eidolon and Tayla see each other all they can think about is having sex. I found the language coarse, and the writing was dull.

It was an ambitious sounding plot with a fascinating world inhabited by good and bad demons. However, the plot was thin and there was so much more that the author could have done in allowing the reader to visualize and explore this demon world. Instead, it seemed like the author was too busy throwing her characters into scenes where they could have a go at each other. There was no foreplay for the reader.

A romance needs time to blossom between its characters. It not only rounds out the characters, but draws the reader into their world. To me, Tayla and Eidolon were just flat, 2D characters that didn’t have a chance to develop properly. I quite liked Eidolon, but Tayla was full of mouthy angst and she just plain annoyed me.

2. Which item from your wardrobe do you wear most often?

A long, patchwork dress from India. My favourite store is HolyClothing.com at eBay and Lotus in the Moonlight, also at eBay.
