A Difficult Day

16 Jan

I don’t like arguing with my husband, but you can’t live nearly every hour of everyday with a person and not have an argument now and then. At least this time I only stomped away once and I never cried. Usually I have a very difficult time of keeping my temper under control which means the point I wanted to make never really comes out quite right. This time I managed to make my point in a somewhat calm manner, and then it was all over.

It still wore me out, though, and my spirits are less than they should be. A small part of me still wants to cry, but a bigger part of me doesn’t want the tears. And that makes me tired, too.

That aside, I’ve been going through old photographs. I found some photos of Marcus when he was a puppy. I can’t believe he was ever that small. I think I’m going to start scanning all of them.

I have scanned two, so far. These were taken in the Monterey Cemetery. I like cemeteries. It’s silence. Hushed. Whispers.

I don’t like the newer cemeteries that don’t allow tombs and upright stones and statues. All they allow is an impersonal brass plaque. Might as well just assign all the dead a number and forget about who they were.

Here are the photos:

I found this beautiful statue watching over a group of babies that had been abandoned and found only after death. Someone put up this statue and put small stones over the tiny graves with the phrase carved into them, “Loved By God”.

I always liked this statue of Christ. He was beneath one of the eucalyptus trees and was always covered with dry leaves and other earthy detritus. There were always flowers at his feet whenever I visited. The old ones just dried until they crumbled away.

Tomorrow we’ll go to the movies unless the weather is really bad. We’ll go see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. That’s one we’ve been waiting for.

Sixteen Years – And We Forgot Again

10 Dec

Cindy – thank you for the lovely card and we will be going to Olive Garden this weekend.

As you can see, Cindy (best friend, extraordinaire) has remembered our anniversary. Luckily the mail came early, so with the card, hubby and I realized that it has now been sixteen years of wedded bliss.

I have no idea why we both keep forgetting… argle.

I still love my husband as much as I did the day I met him sixteen years ago at Round Table Pizza in Monterey. We met through an ad I placed in the personals and we spoke for about a week before meeting in person. We walked down Fisherman’s Wharf, the Plaza and the Memory Gardens until I had to take the last bus home. I really had intended to just shake his hand (I don’t kiss on the first date) but at the very last second we kissed and I stumbled onto the bus. If the driver hadn’t known my stop, I would have completely missed it. I was pleasantly dazed.

Happy anniversary, Richard. I love you, dearly.

Fashion Show, or Don’t Ever Ask Again

29 Nov

Leave comments, people! Why is it, when you want to ask me to do something, do you email me instead? Philistines!

Rant, more or less over.

Because I was asked, and rather politely, I have taken photos of myself in some of my favorite dresses. I am smiling in all the photos (even those where my teeth don’t show). I have a malformed mouth that was corrected by 12+ years of orthodontia, so at least I can smile that much! You also get to see the white in my hair (it’s around my face), and how pale my skin is. Unfortunately, it tends to go red under a flash bulb, so, eh! What can I do? Here they are:

BlackDress_sm

This dress goes to my ankles. I wear the hat (which is old-fashioned cleric shaped) during Spring and Summer to shade my face. I burn. I am wearing my rosary of wooden, black-laquered beads from Poland. Only that one nitwit relative of mine thinks I’m being disrespectful. I’ve gotten some very nice compliments on it. My husband feels like he’s married to a nun when I wear this.

BrownDress_SplitSleeves_sm

My monk dress. I didn’t name it that, my mother did. I like the split sleeves. The necklace, of fan lace agate, was made by me. When I could see.

ManyColors_sm

My “coat of many colors” dress. I don’t wear it too often. I wear it when I’m in a colorful mood. The necklace I am wearing is my little Time-Turner.

PurpleDress_sm

This is one of my favorite winter dresses, my purple dress. This is the one I was wearing when a sweet little boy came up and asked me why my husband, Prof. Snape, was so mean to Harry.

Red_Blouse_sm

My red blouse with the really wide (or bell) sleeves. I also have a black blouse like this and might even get a dress that is full length with these sleeves. I do love the sleeves, but it’s annoying to thread them through the straps of my backpack.

So, there you have it. A fashion show. If you want to make fun of me, then get bent and leave. It was tough enough taking these photos.

The colorful dress came from Lotus in the Moonlight and the other dresses came from Holy Clothing.

By the way, I’m not really mean and nasty. I love all of you.

I Have Been Here Before
