Merry Christmas to All

On window panes, the icy frost
Leaves feathered patterns, crissed and crossed,
But in our house the Christmas tree
Is decorated festively
With tiny dots of colored light
That cozy up this winter night.

Christmas song, familiar, slow,
Play on the radio.

Pops and hisses from the fire
Whistle with the bells and choir.

My tiger is now fast asleep
On his back dreaming deep.

When the fire makes him hot,
He turns to warm whatever’s not.

Propped up against him on the rug,
I give my friend a gentle hug.

Tomorrow’s what I’m waiting for,
But I can wait a little more.

The Last Door

30 Oct

There are many doors
You’ll walk through
As you wend your way
Through life

Front doors,
kitchen doors,
bedroom doors,
school doors,
classroom doors,
office doors,
your own door…

All the doors will be different, yet the same
For some
There will be some doors
Locked to you
That you will never go through
There are doors that hide secrets
Doors that store possessions
Doors that protect your loved ones
Then there are darker doors
Doors that you might not want
To step through
But you’re a brave soul,
And even the unknown,
Will cower at your courage

There is one door
That is the same for all of us
Unknown, dark,
one that we avoid
as long as we can

It is the Last Door,
The Final Door,
The Door where Death stands waiting

The Last Door

Where I’d Like To Be

01 May

Where there is no up or down
there I’d like to be.

Where even silence has no sound
there I’d like to be.

In my NASA regulation suit,
And second umbilical root
there I’d like to be.

With Earth at my feet
And Mars overhead,
I’d need no chair or seat,
Not even a bed.

I’d like to walk in space
At zero gee.
Tis a glorious place,
And where I’d like to be.
