Lemme Snag Ya Wif Cuteness

Yes, I am addicted to the lolcats and loldogs sites. More cuteness than any one person can handle, I say.

Now, onto something a little bit different.

Sometimes I’m just not with it. Low brain cell count, I think. Why? Because I finally figured out that one, very easy way I can make the fonts on sites readable is by zooming in on the whole site page.

All this ridiculous messing about with the browser fonts via the browser options (which, with all the browsers doesn’t quite work the way I want it, so I have to just deal) when all I really needed to do was Ctrl +/-!!!

For those interested:

Google Chrome – Ctrl +/- does the job, but must be done per page and after each re-load of a new page. It does not “remember” the setting if you go back to a page.

Opera 10 – Ctrl +/- or use the Magnifying Glass in the lower right hand corner of Opera. This will set all pages to the new zoom size and will remember that size even when you close the browser and come back later. Note: Opera has smaller zoom increments than the other browsers have.

IE8 – Ctrl +/- or use the Magnifying Glass in the lower right hand corner.

Firefox – Ctrl +/- , Add-on is not needed. There is a Page Zoom Button add-on that’s very slick looking, but it causes deliberate pop-ups (like fanfiction.net’s review pop-up) to take up to 30 seconds before they appear. This add-on is in beta, so maybe they’ll fix that. Firefox, like Opera, will remember your zoom setting.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, keemoslobby!

Sunday Stealing: Blogging

04 Apr

It’s been awhile, but here’s a Sunday Stealing I could sink my teeth into. Come and draw some blood and join me. What are your answers?

1. How did you come up with your blog title OR what does it mean?

My latest blog title, A Light in the Dark, is the one I’ve had the longest. It is a reflection of my general mental state. No matter how dark it becomes, there’s always a light. My blog, at times, has been a part of that light.

2. What are your general goals for blogging?

I want folks to come and read my original stories. My posts, when I write them, give my readers a glimpse into a part of who I am.

3. Do people “in your real life” know that you blog and do they comment on your blog OR is it largely anonymous?

My brothers and my mother and my husband know I blog. My husband doesn’t read blogs, and that includes mine. I know my brother Jack peeks in now and then and sometimes he comments. I always read his blog. I don’t know if Jim reads my blog; probably not. He’s never commented. My mother doesn’t have internet access.

How often do you post (x per week)?

Whenever the mood strikes me.

4. How often do you read other blogs (x per week)?

A few a day.

5. How do you select blogs to read (do you prefer blogs that focus on certain topics or do you choose by tone or…?)

I go by something I’m interested in at the moment.

6. Do you have any plans to copy your blog entries in any other format, 0r do you think that one day, you’ll just delete it all?

There’s no one to keep it for so I doubt I’ll ever preserve it.

7. What are the things you like best about blogging?

I like having a part of myself I can share with other people.

8. What are the things you don’t like about blogging?

The pressure to blog. I’ve done it. Even did it for charity once. It really is no fun.

9. How do you handle comments?

Use a spam filter and if the person doesn’t have a blog, they’re deleted.

10. Do you have any burning thoughts to share on blog etiquette?

Reply to your comments. Whether it’s via email or on the post itself, reply. It’s just common courtesy.

11. Any desired blog features?

I’ve got WordPress. It has everything I need.

12. Have you suffered blog addiction?

Yes. I got over it.

Upgrade WordPress From the Dashboard

11 Feb

This is a nice feature of the latest version of WordPress. I just upgraded a heck of a lot easier from 2.7 to 2.7.1.

I think what I like best about version 2.7 of WordPress is the Dashboard. It’s very streamlined and makes a lot more navigational sense.

I have been wondering, lately, if I even need categories anymore, though. I’m getting used to tags enough that I’m seeing more flexibility in the tags and the tags duplicate many of my categories. I wonder if any of the big blogs have completely done away with categories?
